Houses that were built before 1985 are highly likely to contain asbestos and can be found in two forms:-

Bonded Asbestos – Normally presented as bonded sheeting and commonly found in wall sheeting in ‘wet’ areas such as the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry, vinyl floors, roof sheeting, water pipes and flues, flexible building boards and imitation brick cladding. It has also been used for fencing and building car ports and sheds.

Friable Asbestos – Any asbestos containing materials that when dry, can be easily crumbled to powder by hand and might be found in a few older forms of insulation used in domestic heaters and stoves and vinyl and linoleum sheet floorings.

Yes - a notification of intent to remove bonded asbestos must be lodged with WorkCover at least seven days prior to the proposed removal of bonded asbestos.

Yes - you must lodge a notification of intent to do demolition work with WorkCover at least 7 days prior to the proposed work, unless the work is to demolish any building or structure, or part of a building or structure:

• less than 4 metres in height by mechanical means or

• less than 10 metres in height by manual means
