Asbestos Removal
Asbestos removal is a fundamental part of the demolition process, especially for buildings and projects constructed earlier than the 1980's due to its popular uses in ceilings, flooring, duct work and contained in siding. In terms of demolition projects, asbestos abatement will cost an additional $2 to $3 per square foot to remove, but it is a legal and health requirement for any new projects.
There are a number of legal and government regulations in place when dealing with asbestos removal with anyone working within this industry having to comply with the construction related regulations.
If you have a demolition project, only a certified asbestos removals professional is allowed to remove the asbestos safely and must hold a certificate and complete all method statements before commencing the project. An asbestos removals professional will come equipped with decontamination plans, control plans, emergency plans and hot surface plans.
There are three levels of asbestos removals professionals licensing, which is 'A' Class Licence, 'B' Class Licence and Registered Training. The main difference between these levels is the amount of asbestos they are qualified to remove.
If your property has asbestos then there are a number of responsibilities you have including choosing a qualified asbestos removals professional, nominating people to liaise with the asbestos removalist, having details of their licence, providing all details of the asbestos contamination before work commencements and providing detailed work specifications.
